The benchmark indices ended lower for the fourth straight day on Friday amid slowing global economic growth and inflation fears. At close, the Nifty50 index was down 86 points at 17,532 while the BSE Sensex ended with a loss of 361 points at 58,765. The broader markets, however, ended the day in the positive territory with the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices rising 0.5 per cent each.
Sectorally, buying was seen in pharma, metal, PSU Bank and energy sectors whereas selling was witnessed in realty, banking and IT space.
Shares of ZEEL fell 3% as Zee board rejected Invesco’s demand to hold EGM. Taking a confrontational stand against its largest shareholder, the Zee board on Friday rejected its demand to hold an extraordinary general meeting to remove current MD and CEO, Punit Goenka and induct its nominees.
Shares of Tata Power Company continued to climb higher, hitting a new 13-year high at Rs 165, up 4 per cent on the BSE in Friday’s intra-day trade, on improved outlook. The stock of Tata Group electric utilities company was trading higher for the fourth straight day and has rallied 19 per cent during the period. The previous record high was Rs 158 recorded on January 4, 2008.

In a volatile session on Dalal Street, the benchmark indices tumbled from record high levels to snap their three-day winning run amid losses in RIL, IT stocks and select banking counters. Despite a firm global market sentiment, the Indian indices settled in the red as profit taking ensued following a steep rally in the indices which saw them hitting significant landmarks.
After touching a record high of 59,737, the BSE barometer Sensex plunged 721 points from the high to end at 59,016, down 125 points. At the same time, its NSE counterpart Nifty50 settled the day 44 points down at 17,585. The 50-pack index had touched record peak of 17,793 in morning session. However, on the weekly basis, the benchmark indices gained, thus taking their winning run to the fourth straight week.
The fall was more pronounced in the broader markets. The BSE Midcap index sank 1.14 per cent and BSE Smallcap index 1.06 per cent, thus, underperforming benchmark Sensex. Overall, the advance-decline ratio on BSE stood at nearly 1:2, indicating that for every one share that rose, two declined.
Sectorally, PSU Bank index tanked the most among all sectors, reversing strong gains that were seen on Thursday amid expectations that FM Nirmala Sitharaman would announce National Asset Reconstruction Company Ltd (NARCL) that would acquire bad loans in an attempt to resolve them. While the announcement did come, investors preffered to take profits off the table, pushing the index 2.96 per cent lower.
It was closely trailed by Nifty Media & Realty that shed 2.38 per cent and 2.35 per cent, respectively. On the other hand, Nifty Media, Nifty Financial Services, Nifty Bank and Nifty Private Bank were the gainers. Nifty Auto setlled the day unchanged.

Benchmark equity indices slumped over 1 per cent in Friday’s intra-day session but made a sharp V-shaped recovery to end the day with little change. Financials and metals exerted pressure on the bourses, even as gains in Reliance Industries, FMCG and select private bank stocks tried to limit the losses.
The S&P BSE Sensex fell 722 points intra-day but recovered to close 21 points, or 0.04 per cent, higher at 52,344 levels. The broader Nifty50 index, meanwhile, bounced back from the day’s low of 15,451 to end at 15,683 levels, down 8 points or 0.05 per cent.
The correction was deeper in the broader markets where the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices closed 0.70 per cent and 0.89 per cent down, respectively.
Overall, the market breadth was heavily skewed towards bears with the Advance to Decline ratio standing at 1:2. ONGC, Coal India, Power Grid, JSW Steel, UPL, NTPC, M&M, SBI, and Nestle India were the top laggards among the large-cap stocks while Mahanagar Gas, Ashok Leyland, SAIL, Canara Bank, Max Financial Services, Graphite India, HEG, Hindustan Copper, Affle India, and Wockhardt Pharma cracked in the mid and small-cap segments.
Sectorally, the Nifty PSU Bank declined nearly 2 per cent while the Nifty Auto, Metal, and Realty indices slipped up to 1 per cent each. On the upside, the Nifty FMCG index ended 0.29 per cent higher.

Domestic equity markets traded within a narrow range on Friday, fluctuating between gains and losses, as a slew of downgrades in the GDP growth forecasts for FY22 along with a slowdown in the vaccination programme amid supply crunch kept investors indecisive about the market direction.
India recorded over 343,000 fresh Covid-19 infections on Friday, taking the caseload tally to a little over 24 million. According to a government official, two billion doses of Covid-19 vaccines will be made available in the country between August and December, enough to vaccinate the entire population. This comes after Delhi, Maharashtra and Karnataka decided to suspend the vaccination for people in the 18-44 age group till further orders amid an acute shortage of vaccines.
However, favourable global cues helped the indices to limit losses. In Europe, the pan-European STOXX 600 index rose 0.3 per cent, with banks and retail stocks leading the gains, following a healthy session in Asia.
Against this backdrop, the BSE barometer of 30-shares culminated the session at 48,732.5 levels, adding 42 points or 0.09 per cent. During the choppy session, the index hit a high and low of 48,899 and 48,473, respectively.
On the NSE, the broader 50-share index defended the 14,650-mark to settle at 14,678 levels, down 19 points or 0.13 per cent.
Overall, 21 of the 30 shares on the Sensex and 34 of the 50 constituents of the Nifty ended the day in the red. Coal India, Hindalco, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Grasim, and IndusInd Bank on the Nifty and M&M, SBI, ONGC, Dr Reddy’s Labs, and NTPC on the Sensex ended the day as top laggards.
On a weekly basis, both, the Sensex and the Nifty50 indices slipped around 1 per cent each.
On the upside, Asian Paints, UPL, ITC, Nestle India, L&T, HUL, Britannia, PowerGrid, and Reliance Industries were the combined top gainers of the day.
Profit-taking in the broader markets was sharper than benchmarks. The S&P BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices lost 1.2 per cent each.
Sectorally, the Nifty Metal index nursed the steepest loss of around 4 per cent, followed the Nifty Realty index, down 3 per cent and the Nifty PSU Bank and Auto indices, down 2 per cent each. On the upside, only Nifty FMCG index ended in the green, up 2 per cent.

After a one day blip, equity market once again edged higher on Friday, led by buying in financial, metal and auto stocks. PSU bank stocks advanced the most in trade after state-owned lender, State Bank of India, posted a net profit of Rs 3,581 crore for the March quarter of FY20 (Q4FY20). The profit grew 326.93 per cent from Rs 838 crore clocked in the year-ago quarter (Q4FY19). Sequentially, the profit declined by 35.85 per cent.
The S&P BSE Sensex gained 307 points or 0.9 per cent to settle at 34,287.24 while NSE’s Nifty ended at 10,142.15, up 113 points or 1.13 per cent. Volatility index, India VIX, slipped dropped nearly 4 per cent to 28.51 levels.
On a weekly basis, Sensex rallied 5.7 per cent and Nifty added 5.86 per cent.
On the sectoral front, the Nifty PSU Bank index gained around 7 per cent to 1,386.75 levels with all the 13 constituents advancing. Nifty Metal index rallied nearly 4 per cent to 2,049.70 levels. On the other hand, Nifty FMCG was the only index that ended in the red. The index settled 0.27 per cent lower at 29,542 levels.
In the broader market, both the mid and smallcap indices outperformed the benchmarks. The S&P BSE MidCap index climbed 1.8 per cent to 12,554.16 while the S&P BSE SmallCap index surged 2.51 per cent to 11,855 levels.

Bears continued to be in the driver’s seat on Friday as markets witnessed another bout of across-the-board sell-off due to Coronavirus fears. Further, YES Bank crisis was another major factor that dragged the markets lower.
The S&P BSE Sensex tanked 894 points or 2.32 per cent to settle the day at 37,577. During the day, the index hit a low of 37,011 levels. Bajaj Auto emerged as the biggest gainer on the index while Tata Steel (down over 6.5 per cent) was the top loser.
On NSE, the broader Nifty50 index ended at 10,989, down 279.5 points or 2.48 per cent.
On a weekly basis, Sensex dropped 1.8 per cent while Nifty lost 1.89 per cent.
Among individual stocks, YES Bank cracked as much as 85 per cent during the day after RBI suspended the bank’s board and placed it under moratorium for 30 days and capped withdrawal limit to Rs 50,000 for the one-month period. The stock eventually settled at Rs 16, down 56 per cent.
State Bank of India (SBI) closed around 6.5 per cent lower at Rs 270, after it informed that its board has given in-principle approval to consider an “investment opportunity” in YES Bank. In a late night statement on Thursday, SBI, however, said no decision had yet been taken to pick up stake in the bank.
Besides, other banking stocks, too, tumbled in the trade. The Nifty Bank index ended at 27,781, down over 1,000 points or 3.6 per cent.
Volatility index India VIX rose around 12 per cent to 25.96 levels.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index declined 343.5 points or over 2 per cent to 14,227 levels while the S&P BSE SmallCap index ended at 13,330, down 261.5 points or around 2 per cent.

Extending their gaining streak into the sixth straight session, benchmark indices ended with over half a per cent gains on Friday even as global peers tumbled after China’s GDP growth slipped to a 27-year low of 6 per cent.
Industry heavyweights Reliance Industries (RIL), HDFC Bank, TCS, and Larsen & Toubro (L&T) helped benchmark S&P BSE Sensex settle at 39,298 levels, up 246 points or 0.63 per cent. The 30-share index hit an intra-day and low of 39,361 and 38,964, respectively.
YES Bank (up over 8 per cent) emerged as the top gainer on the index while Tata Motors (down 1 per cent) the biggest loser.
In the broader market, both mid and small-caps outperformed the headline indices. The S&P BSE MidCap index added 253 points or 1.78 per cent to close at 14,420 while the S&P BSE SmallCap index ended at 13,127, up 213 points or 1.65 per cent.
On the NSE, the broader Nifty50 index gained 75.50 points or 0.65 per cent to close at 11,662 levels.
On a weekly basis, both Sensex and Nifty ended with 3 per cent gains.
On the sectoral front, barring Nifty IT, all the other indices ended in the green. Relaty stocks advanced the most, followed by metal and PSU bank stocks. The Nifty Realty index climbed nearly 2 per cent to 262.80 levels.

Benchmark indices erased their early gains to close Friday’s session lower, dragged down by metal stocks.
The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed 192 points, or 0.48 per cent, lower, with YES Bank, IndusInd Bank, Tata Motors, Reliance Industries, and ONGC the top losers.
The broader Nifty50 index slipped 53 points, or 0.45 per cent, to 11,789. The market breadth remained in favour of sellers. About 919 stocks declined and 822 advanced on the NSE.
On a weekly basis, however, the indices gained with the Sensex closing 0.5 per cent higher and the Nifty climbing 0.6 per cent.
Among Nifty sectoral indices, only three closed the day in the green. Nifty Metal, down 1.1 per cent, took the deepest cuts while the Nifty Private Bank index dipped 0.6 per cent.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index settled 45 points, or 0.3 per cent, lower at 14,808, while the S&P BSE SmallCap index lost 10 points, or 0.07 per cent, to 14,239.

After witnessing a rangebound session throughout the day, the domestic equity market ended with marginal gains on Friday, led by buying in telecom, IT and energy stocks. The S&P BSE Sensex added 33 points or 0.1 per cent to settle at 35,963, with Bharti Airtel (up 5 per cent) being the top gainer and HDFC (down nearly 2 per cent) the worst laggard. The broader Nifty50 index of National Stock Exchange (NSE) closed the day at 10,805, up 14 points or 0.13 per cent. Out of 50 constituents, 29 ended in the green while 21 in the red.
A total of 2,704 companies traded on BSE, out of which 1,260 advanced and 1,300 declined while 144 stocks remained unchanged.
Among the sectoral indices, the Nifty Pharma index is trading around 0.5 per cent lower weighed by Aurobindo Pharma and Divi’s Laboratories.
The broader market indices are moving in line with benchmarks. S&P BSE Midcap index is trading 0.16 per cent lower at 15,139 levels, while S&P BSE SmallCap is ruling 0.1 per cent lower at 14,483 levels.
