Sensex settles 86 points higher at 43,443 levels, gains 11% in Samvat 2076


The domestic equity market ended Friday’s session, the last trading day of Samvat 2076 on a positive note after oscillating between gains and losses during the day. The S&P BSE Sensex today gained 86 points, or 0.2 per cent to settle at 43,443 levels. With today’s gain, the index rallied 10.68 per cent during Samvat 2076.

NSE’s Nifty ended Friday’s session at 12,720, up 29 points, or 0.23 per cent. India VIX fell around 4.5 per cent to 19.7 levels.

On a weekly basis, both Sensex and Nifty gained 3.7 per cent each.

Meanwhile, market will open for one hour on Saturday, November 14 for the auspicious “Muhurat Trading session, which will start at 06:15 pm. However, it will remain closed on Monday, November 16 on account of Diwali-Balipratipada.

In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index rose 0.86 per cent to 15,876 levels while the S&P BSE SmallCap index advanced over 1 per cent to 15,639 points.

Sectorally, all the indices but Nifty FMCG, and Nifty Media settled in the green.

Sensex ends choppy session 136 points lower; Nifty ends at 11,642


The domestic benchmark indices ended Friday’s volatile session in the negative territory amid weak global cues.

Among headline indices, the S&P BSE Sensex ended 136 points or 0.34 percent lower at 39,614 levels and the broader Nifty50 index ended at 11,642, down 28 points, or 0.24 percent. Bharti Airtel (down 4 percent), Maruti (down over 2 percent), and HUL (down 2 percent) were the top Sensex drags. On the other hand, Tata Steel (up over 2 percent), and NTPC (up 2 percent) were the biggest gainers on the index.

Volatility index, India VIX, rose 3 percent to 24.7 levels.

Shares of Cholamandalam Investment rallied 15% in two days on strong Q2 results. The company’s profit after tax (PAT) increased 41 percent at Rs 432 crore on improvement in net income margin and lower operational expenses. It had posted a profit of Rs 307 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.

Sensex gains 307 points as financials, metals rally; Nifty PSU Bank jumps 7%


After a one day blip, equity market once again edged higher on Friday, led by buying in financial, metal and auto stocks. PSU bank stocks advanced the most in trade after state-owned lender, State Bank of India, posted a net profit of Rs 3,581 crore for the March quarter of FY20 (Q4FY20). The profit grew 326.93 per cent from Rs 838 crore clocked in the year-ago quarter (Q4FY19). Sequentially, the profit declined by 35.85 per cent.

The S&P BSE Sensex gained 307 points or 0.9 per cent to settle at 34,287.24 while NSE’s Nifty ended at 10,142.15, up 113 points or 1.13 per cent. Volatility index, India VIX, slipped dropped nearly 4 per cent to 28.51 levels.

On a weekly basis, Sensex rallied 5.7 per cent and Nifty added 5.86 per cent.

On the sectoral front, the Nifty PSU Bank index gained around 7 per cent to 1,386.75 levels with all the 13 constituents advancing. Nifty Metal index rallied nearly 4 per cent to 2,049.70 levels. On the other hand, Nifty FMCG was the only index that ended in the red. The index settled 0.27 per cent lower at 29,542 levels.

In the broader market, both the mid and smallcap indices outperformed the benchmarks. The S&P BSE MidCap index climbed 1.8 per cent to 12,554.16 while the S&P BSE SmallCap index surged 2.51 per cent to 11,855 levels.

Indices end flat, Sensex slips 27 pts; Suzlon Energy gains 31%


The benchmark indices settled flat on Friday amid a rise in automobile and metal stocks.

The S&P BSE Sensex ended at 35,871, down 27 points, while the broader Nifty50 index settled at 10,792, up 2 points.

Among sectoral indices, Nifty Auto index rose 1.5 per cent driven by gains in Motherson Sumi Systems and Tata Motors. The Nifty Metal index, too, rose 1.65 per cent led by Jindal Stainless (Hisar) and Welspun Corp.

In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index gained 54 points, or 0.38 per cent to 14,170, while S&P BSE SmallCap index settled at 13,518, up 104 points, or 0.77 per cent.

Shares of Reliance Nippon Life Asset Management surged 20 per cent to Rs 224 in intra-day trade, rallying 44 per cent in past two trading sessions on the BSE, after Reliance Capital decided to put its stake in the company up for grabs. The stock settled at Rs 199, up 6.3 per cent on Friday.

Suzlon Energy jumped 31 per cent to end at Rs 5.80 on the BSE. In intra-day deals, the stock had touched a high of Rs 6.15, rallying 68.5 per cent in the past two trading sessions from a level of Rs 3.65 on Wednesday,

Stock specific moves push Sensex up for 5th straight week


It was a week of stock specific moves. The market ended positive for the fifth consecutive week thanks to a smart rally in stocks like TCS, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank and Reliance Industries in an otherwise a holiday-truncated expiry week. Globally, low probability of US Federal Reserve hiking interest rates in US in its March policy meeting also contributed to the buoyant sentiment.

During the week ended February 10, the S&P BSE Sensex added 1.5% or 424 points to settle at 28893, while Nifty50 gained 1.3% or 118 points to close at 8939.

Midcap and Smallcap stocks also mirrored the gains in the frontline indices to rise nearly 1% each.
