Reliance Nippon Life Asset Management Ltd. (RNL) (erstwhile known as Reliance Capital Asset Management Ltd.) is one of the largest asset management companies in India, managing total AUM of Rs. 3,625.50 billion as of June 30, 2017. RNL is involved in managing (i) mutual funds (including ETFs); (ii) managed accounts, including portfolio management services, alternative investment funds (“AIFs”) and pension funds; and (iii) offshore funds and advisory mandates. It is ranked the third largest asset management company, in terms of mutual fund quarterly average AUM (“QAAUM”) with a market share of 11.4%, as of June 30, 2017, according to ICRA. RNL started mutual fund operations in 1995 as the asset manager for Reliance Mutual Fund, managed QAAUM of Rs. 2,229.64 billion and 7.01 million investor folios, as of June 30, 2017. It managed 55 open-ended mutual fund schemes including 16 ETFs and 174 closed-ended schemes for Reliance Mutual Fund as of June 30, 2017. RNL has a pan-India network of 171 branches and approximately 58,000 distributors including banks, financial institutions, national distributors and independent financial advisors (“IFAs”), as of June 30, 2017.

Demonetisation results in a surgical strike on the sensex!


The S&P BSE Sensex settled 77 points down at 26,105 and the Nifty50 eased 6 points to close at 8,074. In the broader market, BSE Midcap rose 0.61% while Small cap closed 0.25% higher.

Even though the indices were largely range-bound during the day, Sensex rose 120 points as well as fell more than 100 points during the day. Nifty50 also breached its crucial 8,050 level during the day.

Weaker rupee boosted export-oriented sectors like pharma even when the overall market sentiment was not very positive.

RCom-Aircel Merger: The Real Story Is Promoter Fatigue & Pathway To Exit

The big headline in business papers today – that Reliance Communications (RCom) and Aircel will merge to create a 50:50 joint venture between Anil Ambani and Maxis Communications of Malaysia – is not the real one. The real headline should read: “RCom-Aircel merger prepares ground for one partner to exit at the appropriate time.” It could, of course, be both partners exiting in favour of a more moneyed giant. It is a case of promoter fatigue.

Nifty closes above the psychological 8800! Telecom rebounds.


Renewed buying interest drove equity benchmarks nearly 3 percent higher during the week, which was the first weekly rally after consolidation for a month.

Late buying helped the Nifty close above psychological 8800 level for the first time since April 2015, driven by banks, auto and telecom stocks.

The 30-share BSE Sensex rose 108.63 points to 28532.11 and the 50-share NSE Nifty gained 35 points at 8809.65.

Sensex ends on Friday down 157 points over the previous close.


The Sensex continued to struggle around the 28,000 mark to finish lower on Friday even as benchmark indices gained on the week. The weakness in Indian equities was in line with the subdued mood in Asian markets.

The Sensex closed at 28,051.86, down 156.76 points over its previous close, and the Nifty shed 27.80 points to close at 8,638.50.

For the week, the Sensex rose 0.9 percent, and the Nifty by 1.1 percent.

About 1221 shares have advanced, 1462 shares declined, and 209 shares are unchanged.

  • Nifty 50 closed at 8638.5 with 0.3% loss today. 24 stocks advanced whereas 26 stocks declined and 1 stocks unchanged
  • With 6.6% increase EICHERMOT was the top gainer in Nifty. ADANIPORTS, ZEEL increased 3.3% and 2.9% respectively
  • ICICIBANK with a loss of 3.6% was the biggest loser in the Nifty. BHARTIARTL , BHEL lost 2.8% and 2.4% respectively
  • FIIs bought net 84.6 crores worth of index futures and bought net 1392.9 crores worth of index options
  • FIIs sold net 865.8 crores worth of stock futures and bought net 7.2 crores worth of stock options
  • Daily volume in ICICIBANK surged 116%, highest growth among NSE stocks

Brexit spooks the markets globally!


The Sensex recouped 500 points loss in the last couple of hours of trade, especially after recovery in Europe but still ended sharply lower after the UK voted to leave European Union.

The index fell 604.51 points or 2.24 percent to 26397.71 and the Nifty slipped 181.85 points or 2.20 percent to 8088.60.

About 1823 shares declined against 709 advancing shares on BSE.

Tata Motors cracked 8 percent and Tata Steel fell 6 percent as both companies have huge exposure to Europe.

European markets were down 5-8 percent.
