Benchmark indices moved sharply higher at the fag-end of the session, closing in the positive zone for the first time this week. The S&P BSE Sensex zoomed 345 points, or 0.65 per cent, to end at 53,761. The Nifty50, on the other hand, closed at 16,049, up 111 points or 0.7 per cent.
Tata Consumer Products, Titan, Eicher Motors, HUL, Tata Motors, Maruti, M&M, Nestle India, HDFC, L&T, and BPCL topped the charts, rising over 2 per cent each. Metal and IT stocks, including Tata Steel, HCL Tech, Wipro, and JSW Steel continued to lag, down up to 2.6 per cent.
In the broader market, the BSE MidCap index added 0.85 per cent, driven by IDBI Bank, TVS Motors, BEL, Cummins India, and Cholamandalam Finance. The BSE SmallCap index, too, gained 0.5 per cent.
Sectorally, the Nifty Auto index was the biggest gainer, up 2 per cent. The Nifty Metal, on the contrary, eased 0.8 per cent.

Markets started the July F&O series with impressive gains on Friday as hefty buying in metals, financials, and pharma sectors lifted indices for the second day. The Nifty PSU Bank index closed 2.7 per cent higher on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) amid renewed privatisation buzz and fund-raising by banks.
That apart, the Nifty Metal index zoomed 2.5 per cent after Russian government said it is preparing new export taxes from August 1 for steel products, nickel, aluminium and copper which will cost their producers $2.3 billion.
The Nifty Bank, Private Bank, Pharma, and auto indices, meanwhile, rose between 0.7 per cent and 1.6 per cent.
Overall, the frontline S&P BSE Sensex index added 226 points, or 0.43 per cent, to settle the session at 52,925 levels while the Nifty50 index shut shop at 15,863-mark, up 73 points or 0.46 per cent.
In the broader market, the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices advanced 1 per cent and 0.4 per cent, respectively.
Tata Steel (up nearly 4 per cent), Axis Bank, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Hindalco, JSW Steel, Maruti Suzuki, and Coal India made it to the list of outperforming stocks in the large-cap segment while Vodafone Idea, Apollo Hospitals, SAIL, Ashok Leyland, Allcargo Logistics, Uttam Sugar Mills, and Ajmera Realty marched aheead in the broader market space.

Benchmark indices succumbed to profit booking, even as healthy buying continued in the broader market space, after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept repo rate unchanged for the sixth consecutive time at 4 per cent and maintained the policy stance as Accommodative.
The six-member monetary policy committee (MPC), however, revised the growth projection downward to 9.5 per cent from 10.5 per cent for the current financial year and revised the inflation projection upward to 5.1 per cent.
Furthermore, it announced the third tranche of bond buying worth Rs 40,000 crore under G-SAP 1.0. It also announced G-SAP 2.0, under which it will buy bonds worth Rs 1.2 trillion. The central bank will also buy bonds issued by state governments, unlike G-SAP 1.0 that was only for central government securities.
Post the announcement, 10-year government bond yields hardened by 0.4 per cent to top 6 per cent-mark while the equity markets gave up their gains.
The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex tumbled 436 points from the day’s high and hit a low of 51,953. It, however, trimmed losses marginally to settle the day at 52,100 levels, down 132 points or 0.25 per cent.
On the NSE, the Nifty50 index dropped 64 points from the record high level of 15,734, touched earlier in the day, to close at 15,670 levels.
The benchmark indices were dragged down largely by banking and FMCG counters such as Nestle India, SBI, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, HUL, Axis Bank, and Titan.
Overall, the Nifty Bank index ended 1 per cent lower, followed by the Nifty Private Bank and FMCG indices, down 0.8 per cent and 0.4 per cent, respectively. On the upside, the Nifty Metal and Realty indices clocked gains up to 1.3 per cent.
That said, market participants continued to buy stocks in the broader markets after the RBI announced a special, Rs 15,000 crore-liquidity window for sectors like travel and toursim, tour operators, hotels, restaurants, aviation and related companies, spa clinics and beauty parlours.
The BSE MidCap index advanced 0.63 per cent while the BSE SmallCap index added 0.78 per cent. Both the indices hit record peak levels of 22,540 and 24,280, respectively in intra-day trade.

Extending their gaining streak into the fifth straight session, the benchmark indices ended over 1 per cent higher on Friday, lifted mainly by index heavyweight Reliance Industries and financials. Further, firm global cues, too, boosted investor sentiment.
The S&P BSE Sensex added 553 points, or 1.34 per cent to settle at 41,893 levels and the Nifty50 index ended above the crucial 12,250 level at 12,264, up 143 points, or 1.18 per cent.
On a weekly basis, Sensex gained 5.75 per cent while Nifty added 5.33 per cent.
Reliance Industries today ended nearly 4 per cent higher at Rs 2,029 on the BSE after the conglomerate said that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund will invest Rs 9,555 crore for a 2.04 per cent equity stake in Reliance Retail.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index rose 0.36 per cent while the S&P BSE SmallCap index ended 0.54 per cent higher.
On the sectoral front, Nifty Bank rallied 486 points, or 1.85 per cent to 26,799 levels while Nifty IT gained 0.5 per cent. Nifty Pharma, on the other hand, lost 0.7 per cent.

Extending its slide for the second consecutive day, the domestic equity market ended with nearly half a per cent loss on Friday, mainly dragged by information technology (IT) shares. Besides, uncertainty on US-China trade deal talks, too, hurt sentiment.
The S&P BSE Sensex lost 216 points or 0.53 per cent to end at 40,359 levels. During the day, the index hit a high and low of 40,653.17 and 40,276.83, respectively. Tata Steel (up over 4 per cent) was the top gainer on the index while IT major Infosys (down around 3 per cent) was the biggest loser.
On the NSE, the broader Nifty50 index ended at 11,914, down 54 points or 0.45 per cent with 29 constituents declining and 21 advancing.
In the broader market, the Nifty Midcap 100 index ended flat at 16,868, up just 5 points or 0.03 per cent while Nifty Small Cap 100 index ended at 5,702, down over 4 points or 0.08 per cent.
India VIX declined over a per cent to 14.82 levels.
Sectorally, IT stocks declined the most with the Nifty IT index ending 2 per cent lower at 14,996 after reports said Goldman Sachs has downgraded counters such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Wipro, and Mphasis. The brokerage, as per reports, noted that the IT sector, as a whole, will face cyclical hiccup ahead and the current valuation of the sector is at premium to historical average.
Financial and FMCG stocks, too, ended in the negative territory. On the flip side, metal stocks witnessed sharp rally in the fag-end of the session. Nifty Metal index added over 2 per cent to 2,521 levels.

The benchmark indices settled at record closing highs with the Nifty50 touching its crucial 10,500 in last leg of trade, but ended below that mark.
Broader indices the S&P BSE Midcap and the S&P BSE Smallcap indices also hit their respective closing highs.
The Nifty IT (up 1%) and The Nifty PSU Bank (up 1.5%) were the leading sectoral gainers.
The breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was strong. On the BSE, 1,570 shares rose and 1,173 shares fell. A total of 178 shares were unchanged.
The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 184.02 points at 33,940.30 and the 50-share NSE Nifty rose 52.70 points to 10,493.
Morepen Laboratories and D B Realty, from the S&P BSE Smallcap index, have rallied 50% each during the current week on back of positive development in these counters.
GNA Axles (up 4 percent) and Kilburn Engineering (up 10 percent) were trading at day’s high while ONGC and Granules India extended rally to 3-4 percent.

Benchmark indices pared gains to end flat, losing over 1.5% in the week on foreign fund outflows amid worries that the government may widen its fiscal deficit target of 3.2% of gross domestic product for the year ending in March 2018 to boost an economy that grew at a slower pace than expected.
Broader markets outperformed benchmark indices with BSE Midcap and BSE smallcap indices gaining 0.8% and 1% respectively. Both indices ended over 1% for the week
Foreign investors net selling equities worth $1.1 billion during the month. They had sold worth $2 billion in shares in August.

Realty firm Godrej Properties today said it has entered into a joint venture agreement with Royale Builders and Developers to develop a 13-acre group housing project in north Bengaluru.
