Domestic equities’ losing run entered sixth straight session on Friday as growth concerns, amid fears of elevated interest rates, hurt sentiment. The S&P BSE Sensex fell 142 points, or 0.24 per cent, to close at 59,464, while the Nifty50 declined 45 points, or 0.26 per cent, to end at 17,466.
Adani Enterprises (down 5 per cent), Hindalco, JSW Steel, M&M, Tata Steel, SBI Life, L&T, Tata Motors, BPCL, HDFC Life, HDFC, and HDFC Bank were the top laggards. On the flipside, ONGC, Divis Labs, Asian Paints, Coal India, Adani Ports, Bajaj Auto, Power Grid, and NTPC eked out gains.
In the broader markets, the BSE MidCap index dipped 0.17 per cent, and the BSE SmallCap index eased 0.15 per cent. Sectorally, the Nifty Metal index plunged 3 per cent, followed by the Nifty PSU Bank index (down 0.8 per cent).

It was a lacklustre session for the markets on Friday as lack of fresh triggers kept indices within a narrow range. The S&P BSE Sensex fell 123.5 points, or 0.2 per cent, to settle at 60,682.7 levels today amid profit booking in HCL Tech (down 2.7 per cent), Tata Steel, Reliance Industries, Wipro, ITC, ICICI Bank, Infosys, and HUL.
The Nifty50, meanwhile, closed at 17,857, down 37 points or 0.2 per cent. In the broader markets, the BSE SmallCap indices outshone its peers by rising 0.48 per cent. The BSE MidCap index settled flat with a positive bias.
Among individual shares, shares of Gautam Adani group companies continued to reel under pressure Adani Green Energy, Adani Transmission and Adani Total Gas hitting their respective 52-week lows on the BSE in Friday’s intra-day trade.
Besides, shares of digital financial services firm One97 Communications, which owns Paytm, slipped 9 per cent to Rs 640 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in Friday’s intra-day trade on the back of heavy volumes.
Sectorally, the Nifty Metal index slipped 2 per cent, while the Nifty Realty index gained 1.36 per cent.

Benchmark indices staged a one-way rally, surging nearly a per cent on Friday, despite tepid global cues. The frontline S&P BSE Sensex zoomed 390 points to close at 56,072. The index hit an intra-day high of 56,186.
The Nifty50, on the other hand, ended at 16,719, up 114 points. It hit a high of 16,752. Ultratech Cement, Grasim, UPL, HDFC, HDFC Bank, Eicher Motors, and ICICI Bank were the top gainers, ralling over 2 per cent each. Infosys, Tata Consumer Products, NTPC, and Power Grid, on the other hand, shed over 1 per cent.
Sectorally, the Nifty Bank added 1.6 per cent, followed by the Nifty PSU Bank index (up 1.5 per cent). The Nifty IT fell 0.6 per cent.
In the broader market, the BSE MidCap index fell 0.2 per cent, but the BSE SmallCap index added 0.2 per cent.

Indian equities rose in-line with global markets as they cheered progress on ceasefire negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. That apart, investors also welcomed a 25-bps rate hike by the US Federal Reserve, which was on expected lines.
The benchmark indices ended near the day’s high level at 57,864, up 1,047 points or 1.84 per cent. The Nifty50, meanwhile, zoomed 312 points or 1.84 per cent to settle at 17,287. Both the indices had hit an intra-day high of 58,096 and 17,345, respectively.
HDFC was the top index gainer today, rallying 5.4 per cent on the NSE. JSW Steel, Titan Company, SBI Life, RIL, Kotak Bank, Tata Consumer Products, Tata Steel, Nestle India, and Eicher Motors were the other notable gainers, up between 3 and 5 per cent.
Only four large-cap counters ended in the red, including Infosys, Cipla, Indian Oil, and HCL Tech. All these stocks dipped between 0.4 and 1 per cent.
In the broader market, the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices added 1 per cent each.
For the week, the benchmark Sensex and Nifty indices climbed over 4 per cent while the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices zoomed 2 per cent each.
Sectorally, the Nifty Realty index advanced over 3 per cent today, ending as the top sectoral gainer for a second straight day. The Nifty Financial Services, Bank, and Metal indices edged between 2 and 2.5 per cent higher.

The key benchmark indices exhibited high volatility in trades on Thursday. The key indices witnessed wilted under severe selling pressure in the first-half of the day, before staging a partially mid-way, only to lose ground once again.
The BSE benchmark index, the Sensex, touched a high of 60,178 in early deals, and soon slipped into the negative zone. The index dropped to a low of 59,377, and eventually ended lower for the third straight trading session, down 372 points at 59,636.
In the process, the Sensex shed 1,082 points in the last three trading sessions, and was down 1.7 per cent (1,051 points) for the week. The markets will be shut for trading on Friday on account of Guru Nanak Jayanti.
The NSE Nifty declined 134 points to 17,765, and was down 1.9 per cent (338 points) for the week.
The broader indices ended with deeper cuts, the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were down 1.5 per cent each. Among sectors, the Metal index shed 2.8 per cent, and the Auto index tumbled 2.3 per cent. All sectoral indices ended in the negative zone.

Market bulls reigned on the bourses for the sixth consecutive session on Thursday as strong Q2 show by Infosys and Wipro, along with hopes of a better-than-anticipated economic recovery, lifted sentiment. The benchmark BSE Sensex reached the 61,000-mark milestone for the first time while the Nifty50 index surpassed 18,300 today.
An across-the-board rally lifted the 30-share pack 569 points or 0.94 per cent on the bourses, helping the index to settle at 61,306 levels. The Nifty50, meanwhile, shut shop at 18,336 levels, up 174 points or 0.96 per cent. Both the indices hit fresh record peaks of 61,353 and 18,351 in the intra-day deals.
In the broader markets, the BSE MidCap index closed 0.54 per cent higher while the BSE SmallCap index added 0.46 per cent.
Overall, market breadth firmly favoured the bulls with 1,719 stocks advancing on the BSE compared with 1,637 stocks that declined. The BSE m-cap stood at Rs 272.8 trillion by close.

Markets oscillated between gains and losses in Friday’s intra-day session as investors remained torn between strong corporate earnings back home and mixed global cues.
The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex ended today’s choppy trade 19 points down at 53,140 levels while the broader Nifty50 shut shop at 15,923-mark, down 1 point. Both the indices hit their respective lifetime highs of 53,291 and 15,962 in intra-day session.
HCL Tech (down over 3 per cent), Eicher Motors, Bajaj Finserv, Infosys, Tata Consumer Products, and Adani ports were the top drags on the benchmarks today. On the flipside, Divis Labs, Bharti Airtel, Ultratech Cement, and Tata Steel were the top gainers.
The mid- and small-cap indices meanwhile, outperformed and ended over 0.4 per cent higher each amid gains in shares of brokerage firms, IRCTC, AB Capital, Datamatics, and RPP Infra.

Firm global cues and healthy corporate earnings back home helped domestic equity indices to settle higher for third straight day on Friday. In Europe, stocks hit a record high as strong economic data from Germany and other major economies as well as upbeat earnings underpinned hopes of a swift economic recovery from the pandemic.
The frontline indices gained little over 0.5 per cent as volatility gauge, India VIX, eased 5.5 per cent, propelled largely by metal stocks. The Nifty Metal index advanced 5 per cent on the NSE while all other sectoral indices clocked gains between 0.04 per cent and 1 per cent. The Nifty PSU Bank index was the only loser, down 0.14 per cent.
Against this backdrop, the benchmark Nifty50 shut shop at 14,823 levels, up 98 points. On the BSE, the 30-share Sensex index closed 257 points higher at 49,206 levels.
Individually, Tata Steel, Hindalco, JSW Steel, Adani Ports, SBI Life, M&M, and HDFC were the top Nifty gainers of the day while Tata Consumer Products, Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Finance, and Eicher Motors declined up to 3.5 per cent.
Trading in the broader markets, however, remained mixed. The S&P BSE MidCap index dipped 0.04 per cent while the SmallCap index ended 0.15 per cent higher.

Benchmark indices oscillated between gains and losses on Friday as concerns over the second wave of Covid-19 in the country and nervousness in the global markets overpowered the risk appetite of bargain hunters.
After starting gap-down, the benchmark S&P BSE Sensex recouped all the losses and jumped nearly 200 points to hit a high of 48,265 in the intra-day deals. However, bears roared back on Street and sent the index down 600 points from the day’s high to a low of 47,669. It eventually nursed losses of 202 points, or 0.42 per cent, to end the day at 47,878.45 levels.
On the NSE, the broader Nifty50 closed at 14,341 levels, down 65 points or 0.45 per cent. The index hit a high and low of 14,461 and 14,273 in the intra-day deals.
Over 30 constituents in the Nifty ended the session in the red including Britannia (down 2.6 per cent), Dr Reddy’s Labs, M&M, Wipro, Grasim, Hindalco, and Tech Mahindra. On the Sensex, HUL, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, and Infosys closed as top laggards.
On the upside, NTPC (up 4 per cent), Power Grid, HDFC Life, SBI Life, BPCL, Coal India, and HDFC outperformed the benchmark indices.
The overall market breadth remained in the favour of the bulls, courtesy rally in the broader markets. The S&P BSE MidCap index gained 0.2 per cent today while the S&P BSE SmallCap index added 0.5 per cent riding on the back of gains in Confidence Petroleum India, HFCL, MTNL, Panacea Biotech, Indian Bank, Indian Hotel, Muthoot Finance, and Varroc Engineering.
The overall advances on the BSE were 1,566 while 1,357 were the declines. About 170 counters remained unchanged.

A tug of war between bulls and bears was ultimately won by the bulls on Thursday, the day of the expiry of the weekly F&O contracts. That apart, buoyancy in the global markets on the back of a $2 trillion US government spending plan, and record GST collection for the month of March back home gave the requisite armour to investors.
Among the frontline indices, the benchmark S&P BSE Sensex reclaimed the 50,000-mark on a closing basis and closed at 50,030, after advancing 521 points or 1.05 per cent. Earlier in the day, the index had briefly slipped in the red to touch a low of 49,478.5. On the NSE, the Nifty50 index closed at 14,867 levels, up 177 points or 1.2 per cent.
The index breadth remained firmly in the favour of the bulls as 25 of the 30 constituents on the Sensex and 41 of the 50 constituents on the Nifty settled the session in the green. IndusInd Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma, Axis Bank, and UltraTech Cement outperformed the Sensex today, up between 2 per cent and 4 per cent. JSW Steel, Hindalco, Adani Ports, Tata Steel, and Hero MotoCorp were the additional gainers on the Nifty, rallying up to 8 per cent.
On the downside, HUL, Nestle India, TCS, Divis Labs, HDFC Life, TCS, and Titan ended lower between 0.32 per cent and 1.3 per cent.
Taking into consideration the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices’ 1.66 per cent and 2 per cent gains, respectively, the overall market breadth was in the ratio of 1:3 in the favour of advances.
As regards sectoral performance, the Nifty Metal index settled over 5 per cent higher on the NSE today, followed by the Nifty PSU bank index, up 2.6 per cent. The Nifty Bank, Auto, Financial Services, Private Bank, and Pharma indices, meanwhile, gained up to 2 per cent. The Nifty IT and Realty indices closed with less than a per cent gain.
