The Sensex and Nifty ended higher for the second straight trading session on Friday backed by renewed buying interest in IT and banking stocks. Realty shares too logged strong gains, while auto and pharma shares signed-off on a weak note.
The S&P BSE Sensex gyrated in a range of 675 points; the index from a high of 58,179 slipped into red to a low of 57,504. The BSE benchmark finally ended 355 points higher at 57,990.
The NSE Nifty 50 advanced 114 points as it reclaimed the 17,100 level.
The broader markets also finished with gains. The BSE Midcap index advanced 0.3 per cent, and the Smallcap index added 0.7 per cent.
Sectorally, the BSE Realty index soared 3.2 per cent and was the top gainer. The Metal index surged 2.4 per cent. The Bankex and IT index gained over a per cent each

After a one-day hiatus, bulls were back on Dalal Street, tracking global gains, as another volatile trading week comes to a close. The S&P BSE Sensex jumped 1,534 points, or 2.91 per cent, to end at 54,326, while the Nifty50 shut shop at 16,266, up 457 points or 2.89 per cent.
Gains were across the board with all 30 Sensex constituents, and 48 of the 50 Nifty constituents closing the day in the green zone. Dr Reddy’s Labs, JSW Steel, Nestle India, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Cipla, Adani Ports, L&T, RIL, Axis Bank, and SBI led from the front, rallying over 3.5 per cent each.
On the downside, only UPL and Shree Cement were in the red, down up to 0.8 per cent.
In the broader market, the BSE MidCap and Smallcap indices added 2 per cent each. Sectorally, the Nifty Metal index advanced over 4 per cent as China announced to pump a whopping $5.3 trillion into its economy this year as Covid outbreaks and lockdowns crush activity.
Besides, all other indices added upwards of 2 per cent each.

The key benchmark indices exhibited high volatility in trades on Thursday. The key indices witnessed wilted under severe selling pressure in the first-half of the day, before staging a partially mid-way, only to lose ground once again.
The BSE benchmark index, the Sensex, touched a high of 60,178 in early deals, and soon slipped into the negative zone. The index dropped to a low of 59,377, and eventually ended lower for the third straight trading session, down 372 points at 59,636.
In the process, the Sensex shed 1,082 points in the last three trading sessions, and was down 1.7 per cent (1,051 points) for the week. The markets will be shut for trading on Friday on account of Guru Nanak Jayanti.
The NSE Nifty declined 134 points to 17,765, and was down 1.9 per cent (338 points) for the week.
The broader indices ended with deeper cuts, the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were down 1.5 per cent each. Among sectors, the Metal index shed 2.8 per cent, and the Auto index tumbled 2.3 per cent. All sectoral indices ended in the negative zone.

Financial shares came to the rescue of the benchmark indices for the second straight day, as select index heavyweights weighed under selling pressure.
The BSE benchmark index, the Sensex, opened 120-odd points higher at 61,044, and rallied to a high of 61,420 on the back of fresh buying in early trades. Selling pressure re-emerged in second half of the trading session, with ITC, technology and metal stocks leading the fall. The BSE 30-share index slid to a low of 60,551 – down 869 points from the day’s high.
The Sensex eventually ended with a minor loss of 100 points at 60,822. The NSE Nifty from a high of 18,314, dropped to a low of 18,034, and finally settled 63 points lower at 18,115. The India VIX declined 1.8 per cent to 17.70.
Among sectors, the Bank Nifty rallied to a fresh all-time high at 40,587, and ended 0.7 per cent higher at 40,315. The Realty index surged 2.4 per cent to 509.75. On the flip side, the NSE Metal index tumbled over 3 per cent to 5,686. The Media index shed 2.3 per cent, while the ITC and Pharma indices were down 1.5 per cent each.
In the broader markets, the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were down over a per cent each. The overall breadth too was fairly negative, with 1,967 declining stocks versus 1,327 advancing shares on the BSE.

The Indian benchmark indices erased early gains partially but were still trading positively in the afternoon. The S&P BSE Sensex held the 60,000-mark, up 220 points at 60,106 while the Nifty was below the 17,900-level at 17,865.
The top gaining sectors were Nifty Realty and Nifty IT, up 1 per cent each, while the laggards were the metals, public sector banks, FMCG and media stocks. The broader indices were trading mixed. The Nifty Midcap 50 fell over a per cent, while the Smallcap 50 rose 0.2 per cent.
Shares of information technology (IT) companies were on roll with most of the frontline stocks trading at fresh all-time highs on the bourses on strong revenue guidance by global IT firm Accenture for the financial year 2021-22 (FY22). Accenture forecasted 12-15 per cent revenue growth for FY22, on top of the $50.5 billion revenue it achieved in the current fiscal.

After ruling higher for better part of the day, domestic equities witnessed sharp profit booking in the fag end of the session as European stocks slipped in early trade and US stock futures hinted at a muted start on Wall Street later today.
Concerns about the fast-spreading Delta variant and regulatory actions in China dragged the pan-European STOXX 600 index down 0.5 per cent while Dow Jones Futures were quoting 100 points, or 0.3 per cent, lower. Nasdaq Future, meanwhile, tumbled 1.1 per cent and those linked to S&P500 declined 0.6 per cent. Earlier in Asia, Nikkei skidded 2 per cent, and Kospi and Hang Seng erased over 1 per cent each.
Against this backdrop, the frontline S&P BSE Sensex gyrated 376 points in intra-day trade and ended 66 points, or 0.13 per cent, lower at 52,587 levels dragged by Bajaj Finance (down 2.5 per cent), Bajaj Finance, SBI, Tata Steel, Titan, Asian Paints, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, and Nestle India.
It’s NSE counterpart, Nifty50, shut shop at 15,763 levels, down 15 points or 0.1 per cent. The broader markets, however, outperformed with the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices zooming 0.52 per cent an 0.69 per cent, respectively.

Benchmark indices succumbed to profit booking, even as healthy buying continued in the broader market space, after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept repo rate unchanged for the sixth consecutive time at 4 per cent and maintained the policy stance as Accommodative.
The six-member monetary policy committee (MPC), however, revised the growth projection downward to 9.5 per cent from 10.5 per cent for the current financial year and revised the inflation projection upward to 5.1 per cent.
Furthermore, it announced the third tranche of bond buying worth Rs 40,000 crore under G-SAP 1.0. It also announced G-SAP 2.0, under which it will buy bonds worth Rs 1.2 trillion. The central bank will also buy bonds issued by state governments, unlike G-SAP 1.0 that was only for central government securities.
Post the announcement, 10-year government bond yields hardened by 0.4 per cent to top 6 per cent-mark while the equity markets gave up their gains.
The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex tumbled 436 points from the day’s high and hit a low of 51,953. It, however, trimmed losses marginally to settle the day at 52,100 levels, down 132 points or 0.25 per cent.
On the NSE, the Nifty50 index dropped 64 points from the record high level of 15,734, touched earlier in the day, to close at 15,670 levels.
The benchmark indices were dragged down largely by banking and FMCG counters such as Nestle India, SBI, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, HUL, Axis Bank, and Titan.
Overall, the Nifty Bank index ended 1 per cent lower, followed by the Nifty Private Bank and FMCG indices, down 0.8 per cent and 0.4 per cent, respectively. On the upside, the Nifty Metal and Realty indices clocked gains up to 1.3 per cent.
That said, market participants continued to buy stocks in the broader markets after the RBI announced a special, Rs 15,000 crore-liquidity window for sectors like travel and toursim, tour operators, hotels, restaurants, aviation and related companies, spa clinics and beauty parlours.
The BSE MidCap index advanced 0.63 per cent while the BSE SmallCap index added 0.78 per cent. Both the indices hit record peak levels of 22,540 and 24,280, respectively in intra-day trade.
